Historic Preservation

Gale’s historic preservation practice dates back to the firm’s origin of assessing and repairing aging and historic buildings to revitalize their integrity and sustain usefulness. Our design philosophy emphasizes sustainability, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of construction and retain the embodied carbon within existing infrastructure. Our portfolio focuses on the assessment, repair, and restoration of enclosure and structural systems of “old” buildings to those listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as National Landmarks.

Gale collaborates with local, state, and federal agency historical commissions to assist clients with the process of restoring the value of their treasured structures. Bringing a repurposed vitality and extended service life to these structures preserves their original fabric while supporting new uses.
