Vacant since 2004, the historic Stone Building in Augusta, Maine, required extensive repairs to address deterioration of its building enclosure and structural components. Originally constructed between 1836 and 1840, the granite and brick complex presented unique challenges for preservation and rehabilitation.
What began as an effort to protect the building from further deterioration evolved into a phased rehabilitation program. This article explores roof replacement, structural and masonry repairs, interior remediation, and historic window restoration and replacement, highlighting the coordination needed to preserve historic character while improving building performance and supporting future use.
