Masonry, Window and Roof System Rehabilitation
Converse Hall, constructed circa 1895, is a six-story residence hall listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building features an exterior veneer composed of gravity-loaded, unreinforced marble blocks, which are stacked and keyed directly to a multi-wythe rubble and brick masonry backup wall. The predominant roofing materials include slate shingles and copper flashing.
Gale conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the building’s exterior enclosure systems, providing recommendations for repair, restoration, or replacement. Due to the age of the flashings and the inadequacy of previous repairs, Gale designed a full replacement of the slate and copper roofing assemblies. The firm also administered the construction contract and performed on-site inspections to ensure proper installation of the new systems.
