Roof Replacement and Masonry Stabilization
This project started as a slate roof replacement with restoration of above roofline brownstone walls (Phase 1). Slates were salvaged for reuse on the most visible facets of the roof and were replaced on the remaining roofs with new slates selected to match. Copper flashings, downspouts, and decorative conductor boxes were replicated with the new roof. During construction the team encountered shifted masonry gables, deteriorated collar joints, and inadequate masonry anchors tied to supporting structures. In response to these unforeseen conditions, the project approach for above-roof line masonry shifted to a more extensive masonry gable rehabilitation project. Deteriorated gables were dismantled, and the existing stones catalogued and stored on site for reinstallation. Temporary wood framing and weatherproofing was designed and installed. Phase 2 will reconstruct and structurally stabilize the affected gable walls.
