Improved energy performance is only possible with a tight building enclosure that reduces air infiltration. With the rise of new energy codes, net-zero buildings, and passive house certifications, Whole Building Air Tests (WBAT) are increasingly becoming a mandatory part of building performance evaluations.
This presentation will cover how to specify air tightness requirements, outline the essential tests to conduct during the mock-up and construction phases in preparation for the WBAT, and provide a walkthrough of a sample WBAT project, including the use of infrared surveys and smoke testing to detect air leakage points.
